Killing Yagudos for Fun and Profit
Submitted by sam on Wed, 05/26/2004 - 16:53.

The Yagudo beastmen near Windhurst can be a nasty bunch for low-level players. They are the resident bastards that aggro, link, and pursue countless lowbies everyday. They also drop a lot of crap that seems pretty useless (necklaces, feathers, etc.)... At least, it does until you know what to do with it.

In-tune with the Copper Ingots

One lightning crystal plus one Yagudo Necklace makes one Copper Ingot. This is a very low level Goldsmithing recipe, so you should have a pretty high success rate with it even if you've never Goldsmithed before. While it wont raise your Goldsmithing level much, it will net you a tidy profit very early in the game if you're starting in Windhurst.

Of course, if you are higher level, this scheme works all the better. Instead of buying lightning crystals, you can go and kill mobs that drop them. Also, past level 25 or so you can head out to the caves in Giddeus and train Yogs together for higher drop rates (not to mention that the Yogs in Giddues drop more gil and less feathers ;-)

The problem is that these Copper Ingots tend not to sell too well in the Windhurst Auction House. The reason for this is because they can be obtained so easily from the Yogs in the surrounding countryside. Realistically, the Auction House sales of Copper Ingots in Windhurst should be limitted to the lowbies that cannot get anywhere else yet.

If you have a Chocobo or can warp, then taking these ingots elsewhere to a region where they cannot be obtained easily is a more economical choice. For example, on my server (Phoenix) Copper Ingots go for 4-5k gil at the Auction House in Jeuno, whereas they usually go for half that in Windhurst.

Bottom-line is that these are very easy to obtain, and can net a tidy profit. Nothing grandious yet, but still very easy and quick to do early on.

Wind Crystals Galore!

One of my favorite aspects of this scheme is that it augments my logging efforts. Often you will find Yagudo Wind Elementals trailing Yagudo Mendicants around the caves of Giddeus. Kill these (and other things in Giddeus) for Wind Cyrstals. Take these Wind Crystals back to San d'Oria for your logging efforts.

Using these two schemes you can bounce back and forth between San d'Oria and Windhurst, stopping at Jeuno in-between and net yourself a pretty decent profit.
