Tha MonkeyClan of the Angry Monkey (FFXI)
Just wondering
Submitted by Milotheshort on Fri, 04/14/2006 - 04:39.

Without evoking too many harsh posts, i was wondering what some of the clans members play (video game wise) outside of FFXI and why?

I've seen maiors posts about console vs PC before... and for one have always been a huge fan of hand helds. So to try and just focus on something other than ffxi i encourage you all to post on what games would make you all time top ten favorites and why? What made them special to you? what do you think they did for gaming as a whole? etc... Also maybe include what are your top ten least favorite titles and why? this is meant to be a fun post... just for a little variety... enjoy!

Some examples might be

Pong- classical game that caused the nuance of gaming to explode onto the scene

Doom - Un-timely FPS developed a genre

My pics:

Top Ten
1. Half-Life - this FPS showed that the genre as a whole could develop complicated plot, spook effects, puzzle elements, and user interface (mods).

2. Mario Bros 3- this is a classic side scroller... one of my favorite. Not much to say other than great replay value and the tanook suit w00t!

3. Space quest (series) - a series of intense puzzle games with an interesting twist of humor... try it sometime you won't find a game with nearly as hard of puzzles as this series.

4. Metal Gear (series) - a great series that introduced rewards for using stealth, timing, and thinking outside the box (HIDEO)... Three words for you "I FEEL ASLEEP!"

5. Final Fantasy (series) - although i'd argue and go point on point with ne one the 8 will always be better than 7... you won't get much head way.. This series as a whole in essence brought the D & D experience to life providing more linear story telling and removing the need for a DM... Still also a big fan of tactics (ok so i'm hardcore job system fan i like 5 too)

6. Lode Runner - used to bust this out on our Apple IIe talk about old skool... fun puzzle game with interesting maps.

7. Tenchu (series)- doesn't promote odd stereotypes about ninjas, and as far as i'm concerned the most realistic ninja game on the market...

8. Syndicate - interesting concept for a kinduv 3rd person shooter with RTS elements. play sometime you might agree with me.

9. Red Alert - This was the game that all RTS are judged by... the missions were in depth, game play fast paced and units creative.

10. Ballon Fight - why because i own at this game... nuff said.

Ten worst titles (toilet bowl award)

1. Halo - i'm srry, halo brought nothing to the table that hadn't already been brought through any of its predecessors... "bought it brought vehicles" most ppl forget that in "Siege" in Counter strike you could drive a tank... and counter strike has been around long enough in the gaming community to considered a grandpa to halo. Stolen ideas never work out for Microsoft. Also game play is slow, controls are awkward and redundant... AI isn't that, and a console that had to be recalled because it was a fire hazard you have the makings of a sub par title at best.

2. The Sims - have our own lives become so dull that we have to make virtual ourself or communities... the only one i applaud for this piece of crap is sid myers... congratulations you finally made a title you can whore ne mass.

3. SOCOM II - play this and see if you don't wanna break your remote... durr and myself wanted to... the controls make this game a horror indeed...

4. Rainbow Six - Tom clance brings realism to his books by en-lighting civilians with his vast knowledge on all things military... probably this doesn't neccesarly make a video game interesting... six plus hours of prepping where you want you team s to go and do by using a way-point map that is often to cumbersome makes this game drag on for ever...

5. BLOOD, SERIOUSE SAM, ETC - what i like to call the "lock box" of worthless FPS. They all take the prederived engines and game interface from other FPS's change the image files and weapons then slap a new title on it... crap is to polite for this junk...

6. Ninja Gaiden (X-box) - this was a re-release and play off of an older more kick ass title... however this was very un ninja like... with brutish tactics and the use of a great Axe seriously wtf?

7. Ceaser (series) - this game really had no point... more of Serra's failed attempt to create an RTS... too many elements not enough control over them, you end up micro managing your economy instead of conquering.

8. Math Blaster - very few educational titles are educational and really aren't fun... kinduv like masturbating with battery acid...

9. Tetris - ok this game is fun for a while then it just gets redundant.

10. Army Men- boring, confusing, horrible scripting, etc... you pick.

Suikoden V

Suikoden V

It was a good game, I found it moderately enjoyable.

Here's the deal.... if you're a fan of the earlier Suikoden titles, you'll enjoy this one. If, however, you didn't like them, this title won't change your mind. Personally, my biggest problems with it was all the load times and random encounters (BAH, after FFXI, I just can't go back to random encounters!)

BTW... This last weekend I beat Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for the PSP (including the Bonus mission, and unlocking everything I cared for). So, my list that I put here before is no longer accurate. I'm debating about which game to add next, but it will likely be an older GBA game I've never actually beaten (most likely Boktai which was one of those games I got shortly after my divorce a couple years ago and never actually played).

umm...

i dont really have a list cause i dont really play anything else much but uhh it would have to be
1. FFXI
2. SOCOM III
3. NFSU2 (these 3 r the only online games i have and seeing that my parents put my ffxi account on hold for god knows why, ill probly b playing socom lol)
4. Halo 2 (when i get a chance to play with the guys in the dorm cause i dont have xbox)

dont have any dislikes really

but i do like rpgs and shooters?....they r fun lol

My games

First of all, this topic has come up before, but here's what I am playing right now:

  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP)- Next clan multiplayer for this game is on this upcoming Sunday.
  • FFXI - Duh
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (XBOX 360)- My character is currently a level 10 custom class (kind of a MNK/THF combo with ranged attack). His name: Vis Maior (YAY!)
  • Silent Hill 4: The Room (XBOX)- Have been going back and playing these games with my wife because she never saw them before. Our aim is to finish up the entire series before the movie comes out.

Personally, I have a rather large collection of games. I have over 40 consoles (it's easier to name consoles I don't have rather than ones I do) and easily over 4000 games (last time I counted was in 2000, and I had over 3000 games then.. so 4000 is conservative). I'm a pretty hardcore gamer, and have been a collector since I was 4 (not to date myself, but that was roughly when the Pong home version came out).

As far as any "Top Ten" games list is concerned, I do keep a yearly update of the Top Ten games of the previous year IMHO. You can see it here.

I usually have a very hard time coming up with "Top Ten Games of All Time", however. At one point I did have a Deserted Island Games list, but I haven't updated it in over 3 years now (FFXI would easily be the top game on that list now).

sam...

i know you play alot of FPS's and multiplayer action too...

Do you play Counter Strike Source? If so we should try to link up in a server sometime... it'd be interesting to pit our skills against each other... I'm a huge fan of valves work and may continue to be much into the future... they have a good thing and they know it. So if you are game sometime and you know some other who might be too, let me know. I just hate playing in servers ne more with all these no talent n00bs and nubs who have to lie about the fact that they are cheating... Durr, Gol and myself also host original CS servers and were thinking about hosting ... dun dun duh a DOOM server ohh noz! lol well ne ways let me know. Syphion filter? they still make that game?

No PC games

I only play PC games if they have a Linux port... and even then, I usually don't play them (primarily because I have no need, I get more than enough gaming action from consoles, and I don't have to pay for the hardware there - the console manufacturers eat that cost).

And of course they still make Syphon Filter games. The newest one for the PSP is absolutely amazing as a portable game. I just finished up the last of the bonus missions this weekend (kind of disappointed I'm done, too, I want more :-) You can read a review of the game here.

My picks huh?

My top 10 fave would have to be uhh:
10. Chrono Trigger - At first i may have hated this game. I thought it was really stupid but they I got the Chrono virus, enough said.

9.The Sims 2 - I loved The Sims so why wouldnt i love The Sims 2?!

8. Legend of Zelda: OOT - This was the first Zelda game i played. Back then those graphics were amazing. The story was awesome too! And when a game released in 1998(?) and is still haveing gameshark codes found in it and mods being made im sure its a prety good game.

7. FFVII - Well FFVII is the most over rated FF there is. Thats all there is to it. But it has a great story line and yuffie so its a good game. ANd without it i wouldnt be so obsessed with it now.

6. FFVIII - Ya I no "FFVIII SUX YOUR H@X0RZ!" but it dosent suck! The FMVs are amazing the graphics look like a generations leap from VII to VIII and last but not least I loved the story. The only flaw is the Battle system.

5.Golden Sun games - First game i got with my GBA was golden sun. Golden Sun is most likely the best portable RPG out there. Great graphics for a GBA title and a huge and wonderfull story. The first one may only last about 14 hours at the most for me now but i can still play it over and over again. The seccond one though has a huge world to explore with 4 new characters and you get to drive a dragon boat!!^^

4. Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask - If you havent played this game go play it. Thats it.

3.Ape Escape 1 - This game is probaly the most addictive PSone game you can find! I think one of the first games to fully use the Dual Shock controller too. The remake on PSP is great with the better sound and graphics but without the right analog stick it ruins the hole game.

2.Kingdom Hearts games - Add disney and final fantasy and what do you get. You would think a horible game made for toddlers and just another way for SE to make money. Well they did make money but these games arent just for kids. Great battle system and story and a wierd mix of 2 generas. The first one was basicly a 10 out of 10 except for the battle system. At the time the graphics were top notch and had the best voice acting you could find in a game, but the battles seemed to get very reptitive and boreing at times and to be a disney it was a really hard game. the GBA sequal is pretty much there. Not really worth playing now that the cut sceans to understand KH2 are on the internet but still is an all arond ok Game. KH2 is great every thing was improved for better or worse.

1. Final Fantasy II - Ok some of you are like "what...FFII sucked" well FFII rocked! FFII had my fave battle and lvling up system out of every FF there is yet. They story is the best too. I just wish there would be a sequal. If you havent played FFII or have and thought it sucked, go play it again cuz you know it rocks!

Worst
1. Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness: why...just why did eidos do that!?

2. Guild Wars - I expected so much from this and i got a decent game. I'm not saying its ahorible game im saying that they made it seem like the best MMO there ever was.

3. PoPoLo Crois - The story is ok the battles suck and the graphics are decent. Just do yourself a favor and wait for a good PSP RPG to come out.

4. nothing Basicly Every game i buy I know is good or bad so that why I dont bye them

question?

Have you played Ape Escape on MGS3: Snake Eater lol?

;,; no

No BUT I WANT TO!
